Search for Missing Person 6th July 2006 - Bernard Matthews II (OLB)

At 15.18 the coastguards contacted the Coxswain who activated the pagers and the Jim Davidson OBE was launched at 15.23 they were directed to search for an inflatable dinghy off the Shoreline Holiday Centre. On reaching the scene 200 yards offshore they found an inflatable with two people on board a girl and a boy. Also clinging to the dinghy were two male adults who had swam out to the inflatable but were exhausted. Because of the condition of the two children who were in shock and distressed, and the girl suffered from a heart defect and asthma, and was having breathing problems, they were wrapped in thermal blankets. The two adults that were holding on to the side of the ILB were transferred to board the Guard vessel. The crew of the ILB were concerned about the condition of the children and requested medical assistance at the beach. On reaching the shore they were transferred to the care of a paramedic and airlifted to hospital by Air Ambulance.

At 15.26 the coastguard requested the Bernard Matthews II to launch as it was believed that a third person had entered the water to go to the assistance of the children. After a short search it was ascertained that the third person had not entered the water and the lifeboat returned to station.
