At about 17.05 the Coastguard paged the crew, the lifeboat launched at 17.20 to go to a position of 52 – 36.6 N 002 – 23 – 48 E close to the Smiths Knoll. A Dutch sailing yacht had reported a body in the water, this message was relayed by a Dutch FV to the Coastguard. The lifeboat was on scene at 18.00 and recovered a body which was wearing a lifejacket but had been in the water for sometime. Bernard Matthews II returned to the station at 19.06. The body was handed over to the Police and Coastguard.
