At about 9.06 the crew were paged and self-launched under the direction of Coxswain Paul Williams to a catamaran that had been aground on north Scroby but was now clear of the bank and laying at anchor. The Scroby sand windfarm vessel Celtic Warrior had discovered the vessel which had been shrouded in fog earlier in the morning and therefore not visible from the shore. The only person on board the casualty was the skipper owner Eric Ramgren who reported that he had damaged his steering gear when he ran aground on the bank and had not been able to request help because he had no radio. The Celtic Warrior initially took the vessel in tow and put a crewman on board. The lifeboat reached the casualty at 9.27 and put crewman P. Garrod on board to transfer and connect a tow. A bridle was rigged and the tow commenced at 9.33 making 8 knots, because of damage to the catamaran steering the vessel was veering to port. Before entering the harbour the lifeboat went alongside and lashed the vessel to its port side to give improved steerage. The lifeboat entered the harbour at 10.45 and moored up at Hall Quay at 11.05, after discussion with the Coastguard and Port Authority the vessel was towed through Haven Bridge to Bure Marine yard at Cobholm and the lifeboat returned to station at 1.05.
