Caister's New Lifeboat 2005
   
     
SERVICE LAUNCH 37-01 TO - F.V. SERENE DAWN SATURDAY 19 - MARCH 2005

At about 21.05 the coastguard informed Launching Authority of the situation relating to the FV Serene Dawn and he authorised the activation of the crew pagers.
The lifeboat launched at 21.22 and reached the casualty at 21.36 at position: 52-38-75 N 001-48-6E at the back of the Scroby Windfarm.


The casualty was suffering from engine failure with the resulting loss of all power. He had both his beam derricks extended and was dragging the cod-ends of his trawl in the water. G. Gibson, crewman was transferred aboard the casualty. As the skipper was the sole person on board, G.Gibson assisted in retrieving the trawls by manual means.


At 21.46 the tow commenced and the casualty was brought around the north end of the Scroby Windfarm and then towed to Lowestoft. Reaching the harbour at 23.45, after berthing the vessel the lifeboat departed the harbour at 00.21 and returned to the station at 00.45.

Weather conditions - fog and rain. 50 metres visibility.
