At about 12.53 Coastguards were alerted to a DSC call the lifeboat crew were paged at 13.01 to launch immediately, Bernard Matthews II launched at 13.09. The casualty was a 22ft motor cruiser which had suffered engine failure at position 52-45N 001-45E. The lifeboat reached the casualty at 13.21 J. Cannell crewman was put on board and connect a tow. The lifeboat commenced the tow at 13.24. There were two people on board the vessel which moored at the Town Hall quay at 16.15, the lifeboat then returned to station.
